Meta Finis: Again And Again

"What works of art do you enjoy again and again?" was the intriguing question of the evening.

I rarely reread a novel excepting "Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance" for its language and content. I reread it every year.

Another book I reread every year, a book that is difficult to put into a category is "Love's Body".  It has taught me more than I could ever say.

I listen to classical symphonies again and again, largely the Russian Romantics.

I listen again and again to the ballads of earlier years, songs that few now can write, the silly love songs like my personal favorite "As Time Goes By".  Many Beatles songs too.

I reread poems, mostly Rilke lately, Shakespeare often.

I reread short stories now and then, mostly those by Joseph Conrad and Borges.

I sometimes will watch a movie again, usually to show it to someone else.  My preferred plot is that in which people start out broken and by interaction with others are healed.  On that list would be "Finding Forrester", "The Scent Of A Woman", "Peaceful Warrior", "Good Will Hunting" and others of that genre.

I have not acquired the taste for opera.

I am fortunate to have a few lifetime friends and we talk again and again.

For at least a few decades now, the topic of mysticism or spirituality expressed in many periods and in many places, is my main highway for thinking and livng.  I do not reread particular interpretations but am profoundly saddened that most religions have buried their spiritual and mystic traditions.
