Twilight

I suppose it began some time ago when we decided to elect an actor rather than a patriot for president. He delivered the lines so well that we swallowed them as truth even when he misquoted Lincoln.

As we have become zombie consumers so zombie voters. We vote for those with the most well advertised TV personalities and watch them fret and strut on the stage with a "Mission Accomplished" sign behind.

And don't we so enjoy the distraction of watching Chinese fireworks in the twilight of democracy.

Not to mention the debt limit opera we get to entertain us.

The president calls us the greatest nation on the earth. Sadly he is misinformed. We have the greatest military budget and the greatest GDP, true, guns and butter maybe. Sadly, among developed nations we also have the highest infant mortality rate. Sadly too, on quality of life issues we rank in the low thirties among other nations.

Enjoy the twilight of a great experiment in self governance.
