When you visit the links notice the attention to the place, time, and experience in the eating experiences he has invented, all a ten minute walk away from where he lives in Chicago.
Many places are not really places where there is a here. There is so little here in a fast food restaurant. Being in a particular fast food space hardly has a here any different than anotherof the chain. There is no here there in any of them. Not so in Brendan's eating places. There is a here there in each one.
Eating is done only in the now. Besides being necessary it is a completely sensual experience in taste, sight, touch, smell, and sometimes sound. Note the nowness of the sense experiences in his restaurants, each so particularly realized. Notice the stories in which they are wrapped, how the now of eating there comes to be and what it wants to be. The originality and freshness of the now.
Brendan also pays attention to what you are doing when you dine at one of his restaurants by offering you an experience that engages you in eating with friends. If that is not applied spirituality then the Mona Lisa is a cartoon.
Once one's awareness is fresh and aware of the the here, now, and action therein, one can do whatever one chooses to do, but it will be done with the spirit's élan.
His social responsibility to those who work for him is as finely tuned as well.
I have never been to any of his restaurants, nor do I know him well. His mother and I have been friends for years and that is why, aside from a brief visit with him years ago, I know of him and what he is doing with his life.
Though many might think that spirit is opposed to flesh or cannot be experienced in the flesh, then there is no spirit possible for we who are flesh. In that case what is called the "Word" was never made flesh. In the judgement scene, those who did well did fleshy things, after all. I remember feeding was one of them.
